Last week on Friday Night Smackdown, a whole host of NXT stars invaded a main roster show for the first time. The spectacular show saw Adam Cole defeat Daniel Bryan in a brilliant NXT Championship match.
A few days later on Monday Night Raw, Adam Cole was once again in action in the main event when he went one-on-one with former Universal Champion Seth Rollins.
As a result of the main roster crossover and increased exposure, many speculated that NXT would do significantly better in the ratings this week, and it appears as if this was indeed the case.
According to Showbuzz Daily, NXT drew 813,000 viewers. The show drew 580,000 last week, so was up 233,000 viewers this week, likely thanks to the Raw and Smackdown invasions.
Last night show featured appearances from Raw stars The O.C., which likely also helped bring more eyes onto the product.
By comparison, AEW: Dynamite on TNT drew 822,000 viewers. The show featured a cracking main event, with the team of Kenny Omega and Hangman Adam Page taking on Chris Jericho and Sammy Guevara.
Like NXT, AEW’s viewership numbers are also up from last week. Seven days ago, AEW drew 759,000 viewers, 61,000 less than this week.
This will likely be music to WWE’s ears. The gap is the smallest it has ever been in the ratings war between AEW and NXT.
With Survivor Series right around the corner, expect NXT to have more crossover with Raw and Smackdown as WWE hopes to defeat AEW in the ratings for the very first time.
