Sami Callihan and Tessa Blanchard have been involved in one of the low-key best feuds of the year. Their match at Slammiversary made waves.
Many have called it the best Intergender match of all time. Whether you call it intergender or just plain old wrestling, no one can argue Blanchard and Callihan brought it for that match.
Callihan won the Impact World Championship after defeating Brian Cage in a steel cage on the AXS debut of Impact. However, his celebration was cut short.
Tessa Blanchard came down to the ring and got in Sami’s face. This angle set up today’s announcement.
The match doesn’t actually take place until January. This would give Sami a good 2 – 3 month run with the title before he faces off with Blanchard.
Impact executives have discussed the need for setting themselves apart and feel their Knockout Division is where they stand out. It would not be surprising at all for Blanchard to come out victorious.
Having a woman be your world champion would be a big deal for Impact and would certainly make news.
