This weekend at the Survivor Series pay-per-view, Rey Mysterio will be challenging Brock Lesnar for the WWE Championship.
Despite this, All Elite Wrestling Executive Vice President Cody revealed several months ago that he would like to bring Mysterio to AEW once his WWE contract is up.
The belief was that the former World Heavyweight Champion signed a two-year deal with WWE in September 2018, meaning he’d be free to join AEW after SummerSlam next year.
However, it has now been revealed that Mysterio has a clause in his contract which allows him to leave WWE after 18 months, meaning he could leave the company before WrestleMania 36.
It is believed that WWE has a big storyline planned for Mysterio for WrestleMania 36 that would either involve him tagging or going one-on-one with his son Dominik.
Mysterio spent a period of this year out of action with an injury. It is quite likely that WWE will add a few months to his current deal for the time that he was unable to wrestle.
