Last year, Kenny Omega left New Japan Pro Wrestling for All Elite Wrestling. On his way out, he dropped the title to Hiroshi Tanahashi at Wrestle Kingdom 13.
According to Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio, NJPW already had plans laid out for Kenny Omega if he had signed with NJPW. Gedo is known for his long term storytelling and, supposedly, already had the entire year mapped out.
Allegedly, the two nights of Wrestle Kingdom 14 would have still have involved 4 men vying for the Intercontinental and World Title. However, Jay White would not have been one of the 4.
At a press conference earlier today, Tetsuya Naito addressed the media as double IWGP Champion for the first time, and responded to KENTA!

The plans called for Ibushi, Okada, Naito, and Omega to have first night matches leading to a final match on night 2. Due to AEW signing Omega, those plans had to change.
Had he re-signed, Omega would have beaten Tanahashi. Omega would have headlined the Madison Square Garden show against Okada and would have walked into WK14 as the World Champ.
Omega would have squared off with Ibushi on night 1. Naito would have won the IC title off of Okada on night 1. However, the final result was said to still have Naito standing tall in the end and winning both belts.
Interesting to say the least. Omega would have probably had an incredible run over the last year in NJPW. If you are a fan of Omega and NJPW, this probably would have been an incredible run to WK14.
Oh, what might have been. Regardless, it’s still quite impressive knowing that NJPW had plans over a year in advance when other companies are reportedly finalizing their shows while they are going on live.
