WWE may have failed to purchase Pro Wrestling NOAH late last year, but it appears a local entity was successful.
As reported earlier by Tokyo Sports, Pro Wrestling NOAH was acquired by the CyberAgent Group. According to NOAH Global Entertainment President Arihiro Takeda, negotiations with CyberAgent began in November and took about a month and a half to complete.
CyberAgent also purchased DDT Pro-Wrestling in 2017.
This marks the second recent major acquisition in Japan, with Stardom being acquired by NJPW owner Bushiroad in October. The purchase of both NOAH and Stardom is seemingly delaying progress on the launch of NXT Japan by WWE.
Pro Wrestling NOAH was founded in 2000 by Japanese legend Mitsuharu Misawa as a mass exodus of talent from All Japan Pro Wrestling. Following the in-ring death of Misawa in 2009, ownership has changed multiple times.
Pro Wrestling NOAH currently maintains a working relationship with MLW. I’m personally hoping that this purchase can bring us a DDT Universe style streaming service. Since the failure of talks with Pro Wrestling NOAH, WWE has reportedly taken an interest in Dragon Gate.
