On the March 30 episode of Raw, former Evolve and NXT star Austin Theory was suddenly called up to the main roster to replace an injured Andrade in a tag match alongside Angel Garza and Seth Rollins.
Theory would then go on to appear at the following week’s WrestleMania, where he and Garza lost to the Street Profits in a Raw tag title match.
Since then, Theory has felt like the odd one out in Zelina Vega’s band of sexy Latino wrestlers, and the past few weeks of Raw have started speculation that Theory may not be part of the faction for very much longer.
It seems certain that Theory will be kicked out of the group, and now it appears he may be kicked off Raw entirely, as there are rumours he will be heading back to NXT.
Mike Johnson of PWInsider reports there were never any long-term plans for Theory as a main roster star, and he was only ever meant to be a brief replacement.
“They seem to be teasing the beginning of Austin Theory getting tossed out of the group. When Austin Theory debuted at WrestleMania I was told he was not long for the group. He was there basically to help cover things up in terms of what was needed while Andrade was injured, but the long-term plan was not to keep him with Zelina Vega and friends.”
With the main roster seriously lacking in stars who are willing or able to wrestle, Theory may be kept on Raw as a lower to mid-card guy, but given his comparative lack of experience, a move back to NXT would appear to be the more likely move.
