It has been reported in the past week that NXT Champion Adam Cole hadn’t re-signed his WWE contract, and that it would be expiring later this year if he chose not to sign a new one.
The speculation was that Cole, who retained his NXT Championship against Velveteen Dream this past weekend at NXT TakeOver: In Your House, may be tempted to join his girlfriend Britt Baker at AEW.
However, it is now being reported by PWInsider that Cole’s contract is far longer than first thought.
The report is that instead of 6 months, there are actually 18 months left on his contract, so there is no chance of him joining another company any time soon unless he’s released…which he won’t be.
Cole has now held the NXT Championship for over a year, and is one of the yellow and black brand’s most valuable stars. His Undisputed Era faction has dominated WWE’s developmental brand for a number of years now, and holding onto him will surely be seen as a vital piece of business for Vince McMahon and co.
So give it another 12 months, and if Cole still hasn’t re-signed by then, perhaps we can restart the speculation.
