Following the removal of Paul Heyman from the WWE Raw creative team, it was reported that Vince McMahon had made changes to several matches at Backlash.
Dave Meltzer reports on Wrestling Observer Radio that one of those matches was the Asuka vs Nia Jax Raw Women’s Championship bout, which saw both women counted out for the finish and no decisive winner.
He also noted, although this was to be expected anyway, McMahon will be making a few changes to Raw later tonight now that he doesn’t have to use any of Heyman’s ideas.
This week’s Raw and SmackDown are both being taped today, and next week’s are being taped tomorrow, as per Meltzer.
It’s quite handy that this week’s shows weren’t taped in advance ahead of the pay-per-view given McMahon made some changes to finishes, because there probably would have been quite a lot of stuff that didn’t make sense if that was the case.
One of the biggest differences that’s been reported between the philosophies of Vince McMahon and Heyman is that the latter was very focused on building new stars, while McMahon is more keen to use names who are already stars, so we’ll see if there’s anything that stands out as being different tonight.
