Since the beginning of the pandemic, WWE has leaned on doing cinematic matches for their biggest storylines. While some of the matches have been commended for their creativity, other people have said they’ve been overdone.
One of the WWE stars who has been the focus of a few of these matches has been Bray Wyatt. His character lends itself to the smoke and mirrors style of these matches but he has commented on them saying they should be done here and there. Here is the quote from his interview with ESPN Africa:
“I think they’re fun and all, but like I said, I like being around the people more. And those [matches], they should be select. There should be a few here and there. That’s what keeps them special. Especially after the humdinger that Undertaker and AJ Styles put together, because that thing’s close to undefeatable. But you know it’s something that you get to approach differently, so it’s wonderful for your creativity. But they should be finite.”
Wyatt had one of the first cinematic matches with John Cena at WrestleMania 36 in the Firefly Funhouse match. Since then, Wyatt was also featured in the Swamp Fight at The Horror Show at Extreme Rules. While matches like the Boneyard Match and NXT’s Backlot Brawl have been focused on fighting, Wyatt’s matches are more psychological short films. If that is what you’re looking for in wrestling more power to you.
