According to Dave Meltzer in The Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Pentagon Jr. has officially undergone a slight name change in AEW. Apparently, AEW doesn’t own the rights to Pentagon Jr. and can’t put it on merchandise.
Those who were paying attention over the course of the last two shows may have just thought Jim Ross was confused or just found out that he had gone by a different name at times in other promotions.
However, Pentagon will now be officially called and referred to by Penta El Zero M. While Meltzer referred to him as Penta Cero M, AEW is officially listing him now as Penta El Zero M on their website.
Penta El Zero M’s real life brother and tag team partner, Rey Fenix was in a similar boat. Rey Fenix has been referred to as Rey Fenix on AEW programming as opposed to just Fenix. This is for the same reason. He actually owns the name and merch rights to Rey Fenix but not to the singular Fenix. AAA has the rights to that.
Penta El Zero M has just signed a deal to get his shirts in Hot Topic. It seems this official change may be related.
