Despite making his debut as a commentator on NXT on recently, Wade Barrett missed this week’s show. He and Vic Joseph did not call this week’s episode of NXT, being temporarily replaced by Tom Phillips and Beth Phoenix. No reason was given for his absence.
Now, we appear to have been given an indication of when Barrett will be returning. In a tweet sent out after last night’s show, Barrett appeared to reveal he will return at Takeover. Here is the tweet:
What a match for my first #NXTTakeOver!
Congrats to @KORcombat. That’s how to seize the moment 👊🏻#WWENXT @WWENXT https://t.co/zPJdg8F4Ks

“What a match for my first #NXTTakeover!
Congrats to Kyle O’Reilly. That’s how to seize the moment.”
Barrett joined the NXT commentary team on the August 26 episode of NXT. It was in part due to Mauro Ranallo departing the company, leaving an opening on commentary.
Kyle O’Reilly, of course, won the Gauntlet Eliminator match to become number one contender last night. At Takeover, O’Reilly will challenge Finn Balor for the NXT Championship. Undoubtedly, this will be a fantastic main event match.
NXT Takeover 31 is currently scheduled to take place on October 4. Io Shirai will also defend the NXT Women’s Championship against Candice LeRae and Damian Priest will defend the NXT North American Championship against Johnny Gargano.
