During the main event of Sunday’s (October 4) NXT TakeOver 31 show, Finn Balor was kicked in the face by opponent Kyle O’Reilly, leaving the champion with a broken jaw.
The match finished earlier than it should have done as a result of the injury, and Balor appeared on last night’s show to talk about his injury. Thankfully, he won’t need to vacate the title, as while a broken jaw is of course very unpleasant, it will ‘only’ keep him out of action for around 6 weeks.
It also may not be as serious as it’s being portrayed by WWE, as Dave Meltzer is reporting that his sources have told him the injury is not as bad it seems.
Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, he said:
“I was told…it’s not inaccurate, but I was told that it was made out to be worse than it is, whatever that means from somebody there. I mean he’s got a broken jaw, but that’s what I was told.”
Finn tweeted an image of an x-ray which showed his cracked jaw, so either having a crack in your jaw isn’t that bad, or it’s not a real x-ray if Meltzer is to be believed.
Ridge Holland, who appeared to be heading for some kind of main event storyline, appears to have seriously injured his ankle on last night’s NXT, so the yellow and black brand could do with the rest of the main event scene staying out of trouble for a few weeks.
