Following a successful title defense on a recent show, New Japan Pro Wrestling star Yoshinobu Kanemaru has suffered a knee injury. The IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Champion’s injury was announced by New Japan on Twitter.
New Japan released a statement on their website regarding Kanemaru’s injury as well. They also announced that he will miss his upcoming match on November 5. Here is the statement:
“Yoshinobu Kanemaru has sustained an injury to his right knee, and will be unable to compete on November 5’s event in Kochi. Changes have been made to the card accordingly.
We apologise to fans who were looking forward to seeing Kanemaru wrestle. We appreciate your understanding and wish Kanemaru the best in his recovery.”
Kanemaru and El Desperado recently defended their titles against Hiromu Takahashi and BUSHI. Desperado was able to get the win with his sit-out double-underhook facebuster on BUSHI. The pair were not scheduled to appear at New Japan’s Power Struggle event this Saturday, meaning Kanemaru will have some additional time to recover.
Kanemaru is set to compete in this year’s Best of the Super Juniors tournament. The tournament is set to begin on November 15, so hopefully, Kanemaru will have recovered by then.
