The reason that Leon Ruff won the NXT North American Title from Johnny Gargano a number of weeks ago appears to have been revealed.
Ruff beat Gargano on the November 11 NXT in a title match that hadn’t even been announced ahead of the show… but why?
Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer was asked that very question on the Observer forums, to which he replied: “Somebody in creative thought it was funny”.
Ruff only held the title for 25 days, as Gargano won it back at TakeOver: WarGames in a three-way that also included Damian Priest.
It was announced this past Wednesday on NXT that the next episode will feature Ruff teaming with Kushida against Johnny Gargano and Austin Theory.
That means it looks like Kushida could well be Gargano’s next challenger, which could happen at New Year’s Evil or even before that since AEW has three big shows in a row.
