IMPACT Wrestling Knockouts Champion Deonna Purrazzo has cleared up some confusion about how COVID-19 led to the WWE release of Steve Cutler.
It had been reported that Cutler was released after catching COVID-19 at a New Year’s Eve party. However, some reports had been misquoted as saying he was backstage while he had COVID-19.
This included a report on our site which was accidental human error and we apologise for the mistake. It has since been amended.
Purrazzo has since taken to Twitter to clear up that he was not backstage around others while he had the virus. He tested positive and was sent home to quarantine immediately.
She did confirm that they had attended a New Year’s Eve party, and responded to criticism of that by tweeting: “Okay but other people still employed did too… “.
The timing was particularly bad because Cutler had only just been brought back to TV alongside Wesley Blake as sidekicks for King Corbin.
Vince McMahon had reportedly promised workers such as Roman Reigns that they’d have a safe environment, and believed Cutler’s behavior in getting COVID-19 at a party put that at risk and was unacceptable, and therefore released him from his contract.
Steve Cutler has a 90-day non-compete clause so will be able to work elsewhere at the start of May. The door for a return is believed to be open because he was very well-liked at the Performance Center.
