A former WWE star has opened up about their final years in the company, describing them as ‘comfortably uncomfortable’
Mickie James was released from WWE earlier this month along with a number of other stars. The former Women’s Champion has opened up about feeling out of place during her last run with the company.
Speaking on GAW, James noted explained that it felt like she had to fit a mold during recent years in WWE. Noting that she is not the person WWE wanted her to be, James reminded fans that she’s still grateful for her time with the company.
Here is the full quote:
“Obviously now, I’m not with WWE. I got my ‘future endeavor’ on Thursday (April 15). I don’t want it to ever feel like I’m not thankful or not grateful because I’ve had so much fun and the girls in the locker room and I’m grateful for so many experiences, but I honestly feel in the last two years that I’ve been comfortably uncomfortable.
“I’ve been trying to be pigeonholed or fit into a square mold of ‘this is what we want you to be’ and ‘this is what we want you to believe you are’ and I’m just not that. A lot has been happening in the last two years and I’ve been in this little space. I’m not going to get super deep on it,”
James was reportedly backstage for WrestleMania 37, but wrestled her last match for the company a few months earlier at Royal Rumble.
One of Mickie James’ most notable feuds was her WrestleMania 22 rivalry with Trish Stratus. A recent report claimed that WWE planned to tell a similar story with James and Chelsea Green, who was also released this month.
There is a lot of speculation as to where James will wrestle next. She could cross paths with current WWE star Daniel Bryan, who wants to wrestle for other promotions.
