It has been reported that WWE has cancelled bookings with numerous independent wrestlers who were set to appear on TV in the coming weeks.
According to PWInsider, these “unbooked” performers were told that WWE had reduced the number of outside talents they planned to use for TV.
It was speculated that this decision was a cost cutting measure, ahead of WWE’s return to touring. From this week’s episode of SmackDown, WWE will be back on the road.
Traditionally, unsigned local wrestlers would appear on TV for WWE either as an extra, or as an enhancement talent. Both Ricky Starks and John Silver notably worked as WWE extras before signing with AEW.
According to Stephanie McMahon, WWE has a lot of surprises in store for when crowds return. McMahon recently revealed plans for new WWE set designs.
Money in the Bank on July 18 will be the first WWE pay-per-view to feature a live crowd since WrestleMania 37. Early betting odds consider Drew McIntyre the favorite to win the men’s ladder match.
