Earlier this week it was announced that All Elite Wrestling (AEW) had officially signed Brian Pillman Jr and Griff Garrison, known collectively as the Varsity Blonds, to contracts.
Pillman had been appearing for AEW for a long time without an official contract, and we now know the reason for this. Per Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer, Pillman’s MLW contract allowed him to work dates with the promotion, but AEW could not officially sign him to a contract until this past week.
Meltzer said:
Brian Pillman Jr. signed his deal here. This was late in coming because Pillman had an existing contract with MLW. MLW allowed him to work AEW and had stopped using him some time back, but from a legal standpoint, it wasn’t until this past week that AEW could sign him. Griff Garrison was also signed to a full-time deal.
Brian Pillman Jr last appeared on AEW Dynamite in a losing effort against TNT Champion Miro.
