Chris Jericho has responded to Michael Cole’s comment about who invented Money in the Bank.
Jericho took to Twitter on Sunday night, saying that he and former WWE writer Brian Gewirtz came up with the concept of the match. He also added that Vince McMahon insisted that the contract be held in a briefcase.
True story!!! @bfg728 and I came up with that entire match concept. Well almost all of it…@VinceMcMahon insisted that the contract be in a briefcase. https://t.co/rpZkLW3Ync

This has been public knowledge for years, with Jericho even announcing the first match on Raw in 2005.
During the Money in the Bank pay-per-view, WWE announcer Michael Cole said that Edge had invented the stipulation. Whether this was intentional or not still remains to be seen. Edge did win the first Money in the Bank match but was not involved in its creation.
This sparked discourse on Twitter with some fans claiming that WWE was trying to write Chris Jericho out of history.
Jericho competed in Money in the Bank matches in 2005, 2008, 2010, 2012, and 2016. He was unable to win the contract in any of his appearances.
