AEW wasn’t very subtle last night in playing into the rumours that CM Punk could be joining the promotion, but another clue has been spotted.
The ones that most people were aware of was the announcement of the August 20 Rampage show in Chicago resulting in massive CM Punk chants from the crowd, which were shown on camera, and then Darby Allin calling out someone for a match, even if they think they’re the “best in the world”.
Later in the show, there was actually another hint dropped, which came from MJF after Chris Jericho had beaten Nick Gage.
MJF started his promo on Jericho with the line: “As you lay there hopefully in more pain than you’ve ever been”, which is the line Punk aimed at John Cena to kick off his pipebomb promo in 2011.
AEW certainly appears to be doing everything possible to tell fans he’s signed, without actually telling fans he’s signed, and if he doesn’t, a lot of people are going to be very disappointed.
