During the Q2 earnings conference call, it was suggested that more WWE shows and pay-per-views will air on Saturdays.
When this year’s SummerSlam event was announced for Saturday, August 21, many fans found it odd that WWE had moved away from their traditional Sunday pay-per-view slot.
During today’s (July 29) call, WWE President Nick Khan stated that WWE see an opening on the sports calendar, and have been using it to implement Saturday pay-per-views.
The first night of WrestleMania 37 in April also took place on a Saturday, with night two concluding action on the Sunday.
SummerSlam is being promoted as WWE’s biggest show of 2021. NXT TakeOver 36 will air on Sunday, August 22, the day after the Biggest Party of the Summer.
Ahead of SummerSlam, John Cena returned at Money in the Bank. It was previously reported that Cena will headline the August 21 event against Roman Reigns.
Also on the call, the WWE chief financial officer explained plans for international events. Vince McMahon was also asked about his thoughts on AEW investing in talent.
