A large number of fans have taken to social media to voice their outrage following the latest round of WWE NXT releases.
If you haven’t seen, WWE has released the following:
- Bronson Reed
- Leon Ruff
- Tyler Rust
- Mercedes Martinez
- Bobby Fish
- Ari Sterling
- Jake Atlas
- Kona Reeves
- Zechariah Smith
- Asher Hale
- Giant Zanjeer
- Stephon Smith
- Desmond Troy
This list of firings shocked the wrestling world, as most of the names released were considered huge future prospects, with Bronson Reed even wrestling dark matches on the main roster in recent months.
Following the reported departures, the wrestling world took to Twitter to send messages of support to the released performers. Many fans also voiced their frustrations following the latest round of cuts.
One user pointed out that Triple H had previously revealed plans for NXT to become an international brand, tweeting:
“It took 3 years for NXT to go from potential global territory to the disposable brand. #wwereleases“
Speculating about Triple H’s involvement with the recent releases, several fans shared videos of Triple H passionately addressing a live Fullsail crowd, pointing out that the “we are NXT” promo took place less than two years ago.
Referencing the famous “it’s a marathon, not a sprint” quote, another user claimed that NXT’s “rivalry” with AEW harmed the Gold Brand:
“The Wednesday Night War killed NXT. HHH threw EVERYTHING at AEW between 2019-2020, from double-champions, Finn Balor’s return, Fatal-4-Way Iron Man matches, to shock title switches, celebrity involvement, & main roster cameos. He exhausted the product. Sprinted. #wwereleases“
Following the releases, it was reported that WWE has plans to repackage NXT, changing the format of the current show.
