The wrestling world has been in unison today, encouraging for more people to speak out about mental health illnesses following the tragic passing of former WCW star Daffney.
WWE sent out a text message to their talent roster following the news, offering mental counseling to their wrestlers in a bid to help fight the stigma against mental illness.
Recently released WWE NXT star Jake Atlas (real name Kenny Marquez) responded to Sean Ross Sapp, who was sharing the news of WWE’s text message, where he encouraged others to speak up, and that WWE paid for six months of therapy, which he says ‘quite literally’ saved his life.
I certainly don’t want to make this about me but this is important to speak up about. WWE paid for 6 months of my therapy & quite literally saved my life. Not everything is what it seems. People who are truly suffering from mental illness learn how to to hide it well. Reach out.
