More details have been revealed on WWE restructuring contracts, following reports that Kevin Owens’ deal will expire sooner than expected.
As per Fightful Select (subscription required), WWE was fully aware of Owen’s deal expiring early next year. WWE reportedly renegotiated contracts for a number of stars in 2019, adjusting them for higher guarantees. It was noted that many wrestlers altered their deals.
Paige recently revealed that her WWE contract expires sooner than was originally reported, suggesting that her deal was restructured.
The report also stated that after it was revealed that Malakai Black’s non-compete clause was 30 days instead of 90, WWE went back and reviewed many deals so they wouldn’t be caught by surprise again.
There was reportedly a lot of heat surrounding individuals “falling asleep at the wheel” with the details of NXT contracts, following revelations that Adam Cole and Pete Dunne’s contracts were coming to an end in the summer. Fightful was told that those were “handled accordingly”.
Adam Cole has confirmed that he did indeed sign an extension with WWE to see him through NXT TakeOver 36. He debuted for AEW at All Out on September 5.
It as previously reported that the timing of Canyon Ceman’s WWE release “very much lined up” with WWE learning about Cole’s contract situation.
