Bryan Danielson Recalls Vince McMahon Being ‘So Mad’ After Drew Gulak Match

Bryan Danielson has spoken about why Vince McMahon was “so mad” with him after his match with Drew Gulak at Elimination Chamber 2020.

The match was very well-received by fans, and even McMahon himself said the match wasn’t the problem, but he wasn’t happy about a German suplex that Danielson took, because of his well-documented injury isses.

Speaking with Sports Illustrated, Danielson said:

“Vince is very protective of me in almost like a fatherly type way. I was wrestling Drew Gulak at Elimination Chamber right before the pandemic. I took a German suplex that went a little bit wrong and I landed on my head. When I got to the back, Vince was so mad at me and he was like, it wasn’t anything about the performance. After he got mad at me, I said, ‘Was the match okay?’. ‘Yeah, the match was great, but you can’t do that’. He doesn’t want me to get hurt. You don’t want your boss to get mad at you. I saw it as coming from a very loving perspective.”

As complimentary as he has been about WWE, Bryan Danielson has said one of the things that excites him the most about AEW is being able to perform without those same restrictions.

He made his in-ring debut against Kenny Omega last night, which went to a time-limit draw.
