When Ring Of Honor returns from the announced early-2022 hiatus, the promotion will focus on non-contracted wrestlers, as per Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer Radio.
Meltzer stated that the current plan for ROH’s return would be for the promotion to “essentially be an indie promotion”, where talent is booked for nights ROH holds pay-per-views and TV tapings.
It was pointed out that ROH relying less on contracted talent could lead to issues if a wrestler holding a title signs a deal with another company.
ROH has notably released ‘everyone’ from their contracts, with releases coming into effect at the end of 2021. Stars who have deals that go beyond January 1, 2022 will reportedly be paid up until March 2021.
The promotion announced that live events and TV tapings will be paused while the company ‘reimagines’ ROH. The current plan is for the promotion to return with the April Supercard of Honor event, with a promotion in Dallas reportedly already booked for the show.
