A new report has indicated that WWE banned commentators from mentioning the city Greenville, during the January 3 edition of Raw.
On Monday’s episode, all mentions of the taping’s location referred to the state of South Carolina, rather than the city of Greenville. According to the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the powers that be decided that Greenville sounded too ‘bush league’.
Something similar happened with Rayleigh, North Carolina last year, with WWE only mentioning the state on air, not the city. The US city of Ontario has also been referred to as ‘Southern California’ in the past.
WWE has also reportedly banned the term ‘pay-per-view‘. At WWE Day 1, the company introduced described the show as a ‘premium live event’, a term which has since featured on promotional material for Royal Rumble.
