AEW’s Ricky Starks has thrown shade at NJPW star Tetsuya Naito ahead of the Forbidden Door crossover pay-per-view.
Top names from both NJPW and AEW will be in action on June 26 at the United Center in Chicago.
Ahead of the event, former IWGP Heavyweight Champion Naito made it clear that he’s waiting to be challenged to a bout at the event, telling Sports Illustrated:
“There is no wrestler I want to call out. The reason is simple. Wrestlers in AEW will all gather and shout, ‘I want to wrestle Tetsuya Naito!’ and ‘I want to fight Los Ingobernables de Japon!’ It isn’t hard to see this happening. It won’t take long before it does.”
Ricky Starks has since shared a near-identical quote to Twitter, noting:
Regarding the Forbidden Door PPV:
There is no wrestler I want to call out… Wrestlers in NJPW will all gather & shout, ‘I want to wrestle Ricky Starks!’ and ‘I want to fight Team Taz!’ It won’t take long before it does.
NJPW’s Will Ospreay has also teased a high-profile match for the event, recently asking Kenny Omega if he’ll be cleared for action by June.
Both Ospreay and Naito could potentially be walking into the event as champions, with Naito challenging for Okada’s IWGP World Heavyweight Title, and Ospreay facing off against Hiroshi Tanahashi for the vacant IWGP US Title at Wrestling Dontaku this Sunday.
Starks last wrestled during the April 15 Dark taping, teaming with Powerhouse Hobbs to do battle with Evil Uno & Stu Grayson.
