IWGP World Heavyweight Champion Kazuchika Okada has shared his thoughts on the upcoming AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door event.
The top stars of AEW and NJPW will be in action on June 26 in Chicago’s United Center.
Following Wrestling Dontaku, Okada argued that a NJPW super-show without him wouldn’t make sense. Confirming that he absolutely plans to be part of the event, Okada said:
“Well, of course I don’t know what shape that event will take, but the fact that we’re having this combined event at all means I should absolutely be a part of it. There wouldn’t be much point in having a supershow like that if I’m not there. I think that we’ll create some more NJPW fans in the process, just like some NJPW fans in Japan will be discovering AEW as well.”
In an interview with Sports Illustrated, Okada teased matches with two of AEW’s most popular stars, noting:
“Forbidden Door with AEW has just been announced, and all the fans are predicting various matches,” Okada says. “I believe the day will come when I wrestle CM Punk and Bryan Danielson.”
The Rainmaker defended his gold against Tetsuya Naito at Wrestling Dontaku. At Dominion, just two weeks before Forbidden Door, Okada will face off against Jay White with the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship on the line.
