The backstage reaction to the recent Hikaru Shida AEW injury confusion, following the announcement that she has been pulled out of the Owen Hart Foundation Cup Tournament.
On AEW Rampage, it was announced that Shida will be unable to compete in the tournament due to injury.
After initially indicating that she’s not hurt, the former AEW Women’s Champion clarified that she was unable to return to the US in time for an AEW doctor check, ahead of the tournament commencing.
Per Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful, people in AEW were confused by Shida’s reaction, as they were under the impression she was aware of the way she had been written out of the tournament.
Sapp tweeted:
The Shida thing confused a lot of people considering that they were pretty sure she was aware. The Janela and Stunt things were certainly weird
As previously stated by Shida on social media, the former AEW Women’s Champion has wrestled a number of matches in Japan since her street fight against Serena Deeb on the April 27 edition of Dynamite.
Kris Statlander was announced as Shida’s replacement in the tournament.
