Gable Steveson may seem to be on the WWE fast track but according to his college wrestling coach, he has an interest in one more NCAA season.
According to a new report from the Twin Cities Pioneer Press, Gable Steveson may be considering returning to his college wrestling roots for his last year of NCAA eligibility despite having made the symbolic gesture of retirement after his final match.
Steveson won his second straight Championship with the Univesity of Minnesota Gophers with coach Bradon Eggum telling the Pioneer Press today that it might not be totally over at the collegiate level for Steveson just yet.
Eggum is quoted in the piece as saying:
“I know he would like to wrestle, and he loves competing. Really, it comes down to making that work
“It would have to be something he works out with the WWE and Vince McMahon. Those details … it hasn’t gotten that far. It’s one thing if he said, ‘No way, I’m not doing it.’ … But he has the eligibility, he’s capable and he has interest in doing it.
“We want to make it as easy on him as possible.”
Gable Steveson is poised to make his mark in WWE, being frequently touted, being mentioned on WWE earnings calls as an example of their plan for success with the Next in Line program, recruiting talented athletes at a collegiate level for future WWE training opportunities.
