Charlotte Flair has recalled her infamous title exchange segment with Becky Lynch, explaining her side of the story.
On the October 22, 2021 edition of SmackDown, Flair and Lynch were involved in a segment in which the duo were meant to swap their Raw and SmackDown Women’s Titles to correspond with their new brands.
During the segment, Flair dropped the Raw Women’s Title when Lynch reached out for it, prompting Lynch to throw the SmackDown title at Flair.
The duo reportedly had a heated exchange backstage after the incident.
Speaking on Steve Austin’s Broken Skull Sessions, Flair claimed that her dropping the title when handing it over was a complete accident.
Explaining why she didn’t pick it up, Flair said:
“You’ve got two women that want to be the best, that want to be that top spot. I wish I could sit here and tell you that I did it on purpose but if people need me to be that bad guy, I’ll be that bad guy. Things happen on screen. I would never go on a scripted television show and purposely do something on purpose… It was accidental.
“My character would have never picked it up, Why would I not make Sonya do it? I make someone hold the ropes.”
Charlotte Flair hasn’t appeared on WWE TV since losing her SmackDown Women’s Championship to Ronda Rousey at WrestleMania Backlash in May. Liv Morgan is the current champion after cashing in her Money in the Bank contract on Rousey in July.
Becky Lynch is currently out of action after suffering a shoulder injury at SummerSlam. She recently provided an update on her shoulder.
