There has been a new development in the Major League Wrestling (MLW) vs WWE lawsuit case.
As reported by PWInsider, a scheduled hearing for September 29 has been cancelled by the US District Court, Californian Northern District (San Jose).
During the hearing, the court had been scheduled to hear arguments as to whether or not the case should be dismissed.
Judge Edward J Davila will still make a decision on whether the case should be dismissed, just without hearing any arguments. There’s no word yet on when the decision will be made.
The initial lawsuit filed by MLW in January had alleged that WWE had attempted to undermine competition within the industy and interfered in MLW’s negotiations and business projects with potential partners, which allegedly included a “major streaming deal which would have been transformative for the company”.
In a previous filing to have the case dismissed, WWE actually cited the success of AEW as an argument that there is “a market with aggressive players vying for market share and finding successes”, and thus WWE doesn’t have an aggressive monopoly over the industry to the extent MLW’s claims had suggested.
We’ll continue to keep you updated on this case as it progresses.
