The real reason why Saraya rejected WWE’s offer before joining AEW has now been revealed.
The former ‘Paige’ finished up with WWE in July after the company decided not to renew her contract. After a period of free-agency, Saraya debuted for AEW at Dynamite Grand Slam on September 21.
Per Fighful Select (subscription required), the new WWE regime reached out to Saraya to offer her a new deal while she was a free agent, but Saraya turned the offer down.
According to the report, the freedom to work on outside projects led to Saraya joining AEW. The report noted that Saraya’s previous WWE deal was ‘surprisingly low’, and restricted projects she was able to work on away from the company.
Following Vince McMahon’s retirement in late-July, Stephanie McMahon and Nick Khan became WWE co-CEOs, and Triple H took over creative as the company’s Chief Content Officer. Triple H was reportedly ‘shocked’ that the previous WWE management team chose to let Saraya’s deal expire.
Per Fightful, WWE ‘higher-ups’ told Saraya that a wrestling return would be possible if she re-joined the company.
