CJ Perry (Lana) Reflects On The End Of Rusev Day WWE

A former WWE star has reflected on the end of Rusev Day.

During 2017-2018, every day in WWE was Rusev Day as the once evil Bulgarian Brute became widely popular with the fans.

An off line in a promo became a merchandise mover for the company and became the moniker for the trio of Rusev, Aiden English and Lana.

Despite getting huge babyface reactions, WWE consistently booked them as heels and subsequently split them abruptly.

Speaking on the In The Kliq podcast, CJ Perry addressed WWE deciding to end the Rusev Day run and Vince McMahon preferring Rusev as a vicious villain.

She said:

“I feel that Vince had an idea of how he wanted — the simplest way of putting it for all the listeners that might not be as familiar with wrestling is Vince McMahon was the director, the Steven Spielberg of our show. Just like any television show, or movie, there’s casting and it comes down to the executive, the network, to the showrunner, and if they want to cast you as a villain, you know, that’s their choice. I think at the end of the day, Vince loves Miro as a villain. So that was really the bottom line of the struggle is, he wanted him to be his Bulgarian 300-pound crazy villain. I mean, it was his company, still is, and that was his creative vision. I think that was always the conflict of it.”

Rusev was released from WWE in 2020 and soon signed with All Elite Wrestling as Miro. The Redeemer is a former TNT Champion and has often referenced his wife on television despite her never appearing in AEW.

As previously reported, CJ Perry has opened up about the possibility of joining Miro in AEW in a recent interview.
