It’s been a big year for WWE in 2022 and the company has hit a big milestone as we run into the final two months of the year.
For the year-to-date, WWE have had an impressive fifty title changes (excluding the 24/7 Championship).
In a year that started with Brock Lesnar becoming the new WWE Champion at WWE Day 1, we’ve seen practically every championship change hands over the past eleven months.
With the WWE Championship and WWE Universal Championship being unified at WrestleMania 38 Sunday, Roman Reigns has retained that championship since April 3, 2022.
Some Championships haven’t made it through the year, though, with the NXT Cruiserweight Championship being retired in January at NXT New Year’s Evil, with Carmelo Hayes as the last holder.
With the closure of NXT UK after NXT Worlds Collide on September 4, we saw the retirement of the NXT UK Championship with Bron Breakker defeating Tyler Bate for the championship which was subsequently retired.
The NXT Heritage Cup hasn’t officially retired, though the NXT Tag Team Championships have, with Pretty Deadly being the last to hold the titles.
There are currently fifteen active championship titles in WWE and you can keep track of every title chance on our WWE Title Change tracker.
