A huge change has been announced for the NBCUniversal Peacock streaming service, the home of the WWE Network in the US.
The platform has been the home of WWE content in the US since March 2021, after a deal was made for exclusive US distribution rights that January.
The streaming service has now ended its free subscription tier, for those who wanted to watch certain content with ads for free.
New subscribers won’t be able to sign up for the free subscription, but those who are already subscribed will still be able to use the service.
Those wanting to use Peacock now will either have to pay $4.99 per month, or join the $9.99 tier for the add-free version.
It was recently touted that the platform currently has 20 million active subscribers.
WWE has now revealed that the January 28 Royal Rumble premium live event was the most viewed Royal Rumble show ever.
There has been heavy speculation that NBCUniversal/Comcast will soon purchase WWE, following reports that the company had received advice about a potential sale.
the CEO of NBCUniversal recently discussed the company’s plans for future acquisitions.
