A WWE star’s injury that happened in a ‘sneak attack’ on February 7 has been confirmed to be legitimate according to reports.
On the February 7 episode of WWE NXT, the returning Ilja Dragunov attacked JD McDonagh resulting in what was described as a “detached retina” by the injured star himself.
McDonagh stated that he estimated a ten to fourteen day recovery time.
Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer confirmed that the injury wasn’t for story-telling purposes and that the detached retina in the right eye was, indeed, legitimate.
Dragunov’s return to WWE television comes after Shawn Michaels addressed visa issues as one of the factors that had kept Dragunov and Meiko Satomura off WWE television since NXT UK was put on hiatus.
On the February 14 episode of WWE NXT, McDonagh would appear, wearing an eyepatch, to distract Dragunov allowing Trick Williams to attack him.
