With an AEW star’s contract coming to an end this year with said star wanting to explore “free agency” an update on WWE interest has emerged.
According to Fightful Select (subscription require), Brian Cage’s AEW contract is due to come to an end very soon.
AEW, it is reported, had wanted to extend the contract to take in injury time, keeping Cage under contract “at least the end of June.”
According to Fightful Select, Cage had “pushed back on that” with an interest in “exploring free agency”.
Fightful Select also note that “WWE has maintained interest in Cage” according to their sources and is open to conversations with the former FTW Champion.
It is also reported that “AEW offered Cage a contract extension” that would be “comparable to his current deal”.
At the time of writing, this option “hasn’t been ruled out.”
Brian Cage is the current ROH World Six-Man Tag Team Champion alongside Kaun and Toa Liona.
Cage joined AEW in January 2020, though wouldn’t debut until May of that year at Double of Nothing.
This would be due to taking time off for surgery following the expiration of his Impact Wrestling contract with his last appearance being the January 12 2020 Hard to Kill PPV.
This is, according to Figthful Select, one of the reasons why AEW wanted to add injury time to Cage’s contract, having signed him to the company whilst injured.
