Former NXT Champion Opens Up About Complacency & Main Roster Ambitions

A former NXT champion who was released by and returned to WWE has opened up about complacency and ambitions.

Bronson Reed had a successful independent wrestling career before he signed with WWE in 2019 and heading towards NXT.

During his initial run on NXT, Reed held the NXT North American Championship, defeating Johnny Gargano at TakeOver: WarGames in December 2020.

He would have his final NXT match in July 2021 and would be released from his WWE contract in August of that year, heading to NJPW and returning to his Jonah ring-name.

Speaking on Out of Character with Ryan Satin, Reed opened up about his time in NXT and the challenges he faced, revealing:

“I still think that I was lacking something [in NXT] and I found that in my time away.”

While he felt that he was doing a good job in NXT and enjoyed his championship reign, he would look at his life post-release, saying:

“So, I never look at that release as a negative, but more something that I found myself in.”

His contribution to the WWE roster was obviously held in high regard, with Triple H considering him a “priority” rehire when he took over WWE.

Reed would return to WWE in December 2022 and be introduced to the main roster on WWE Raw, the brand on which he has remained following the WWE Draft.

Of his ambitions on the main roster, Reed told Ryan Satin:

“Now that I’m on Monday Night Raw and I’m staying on Raw, I want it to be the best brand possible.

“I think, sort of, 2003, 2004, you got that bit of competition between Raw and SmackDown, and I hope now that we are getting the brand split the same thing happens.

“I want to have Monday Night Raw be the ‘A’ brand.”

Since his return to WWE, Reed has been involved in matches at Elimination Chamber and was part of the Triple Threat match with Bobby Lashley for Austin Theory’s United States Championship.
