Ricardo Rodriguez was a very familiar voice to WWE fans as a ring announcer and has recently opened up about a return.
Rodriguez made his WWE debut on SmackDown in August 2010 having competed on the independent scene.
He would serve as Alberto Del Rio’s ring announcer as well wrestling as El Local and joining the Spanish broadcast team until his release in July 2014.
In an interview with WrestlingNews.co, Rodriguez revealed he did a WWE tryout after SummerSlam 2010 and was approached shortly thereafter about doing ring announcing.
This would lead to Rodriguez having to lie about owning a tuxedo and going to Goodwill to buy one.
Rodriguez would head to Bakersfield, then Fresno for a double taping of SmackDown and would be offered a contract that would see him remain the ring announcer of Del Rio.
Although Rodqriguez hasn’t made a return to WWE since his 2014 release, he was asked whether he’d return to the company, saying:
“I would definitely go back to WWE if given the opportunity.”
In the interview, Rodriguez would reveal that he did one taping on the AEW Spanish announce team.
The opportunity came about due to his friendship with Thunder Rosa who vouched for him in the role.
