This year’s AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door event was highly praised by both fans and those within AEW and NJPW.
While this year’s event did feature Kenny Omega, Bryan Danielson and CM Punk, who all missed last year’s show, there were still many names that missed this year’s event.
One name who missed this year’s show was Mercedes Mone, who is under contract to New Japan Pro Wrestling and was reportedly pitched to face off with Saraya on the show prior to the injury.
Speaking t0 Cam Heyward on Not Just Football, Britt Baker was asked who she would want to face off against at next year’s big event.
She said:
“There is a very famous female wrestler, who used to go by the name of Sasha Banks, now she’s Mercedes Mone. She is on the circuit. She got injured, but when she heals up, I think anyone and everyone wants to see her in some capacity all over the wrestling scene.
“She’s not in WWE anymore so she can do whatever she wants. She’s in New Japan right now, but she’s not exclusive to them. Just to see somebody of that caliber going out there and doing her thing on her own without the machine behind her and still succeeding is really cool.”
Mercedes suffered an ankle injury during a match with Willow Nightingale at NJPW Resurgence back in May.
There has reportedly been no timetable on Mercedes’ return, but plans for her to face off against NJPW STRONG Women’s Champion Giulia upon her return.
While the third annual Forbidden Door event has not been officially been announced, it has been an annual event on the calendar for the past two years.
