Cody Rhodes left AEW in early 2022, returning to WWE, and it resulted in the apparent decline of Fuego Del Sol’s AEW career.
By June 2023, Fuego Del Sol would leave AEW with his free agency starting in July of that year.
Speaking with Fightful, he revealed the impact Rhodes’ departure had on his career.
Reflecting on their run together as Too Fast Too Fuego in which Rhodes was Fuego II, Fuego Del Sol said:
“What a fun little thing while it lasted. It was only four matches, but it took the world by storm.
“It was really just a way for Fuego II to stay in ring shape. He felt like he was cutting too many promos on TV.
“It was great for me because it guaranteed me to be at TV every week.
“When Cody leaves, I don’t have that guarantee to be at TV every week, it slowly hurt my standing within AEW.”
Del Sol had previously discussed being in a “dangerous place” creatively as he wasn’t being used on television.
He also has revealed details of the phone call that told him that his contract wouldn’t be renewed.
