Becky Lynch Wins WWE Women’s Intercontinental Championship At WrestleMania 42 WWE

Becky Lynch is the new WWE Women’s Intercontinental Champion, defeating AJ Lee at WrestleMania 42 tonight.

Lynch headed into tonight’s match with an 0-3 record against Lee after Lee’s long awaited return to WWE in September.

Notably, the referee for tonght’s match was Jessika Carr, who has had multiple run-ins with Lynch in previous matches involving Lee and Maxxine Dupri, effectively costing Lynch those matches.

The finish tonight saw Lynch pull Carr in front of herself to block an attack from Lee before capitalizing to score the win.

The win tonight makes Lee a three-time WWE Women’s Intercontinental Champion since the title was introduced in early 2025.

Is Becky Lynch Ms. WrestleMania?

A lot has been made this past week about who is the modern equivalent to ‘Mr WrestleMania’ Shawn Michaels, with arguments for the likes of Seth Rollins, Cody Rhodes and Roman Reigns.

However, there can also be a debate about who could be considered Ms WrestleMania, and whether that distinction could go to Becky Lynch.

Lynch won the first women’s WrestleMania main event in 2019, defeating Ronda Rousey and Charlotte Flair, which is already a major argument that she could be deserving of such a title.

In total, she’s had nine WrestleMania matches with opponents ranging from AJ Lee to Rhea Ripley to Bianca Belair to the aforementioned Rousey and Flair.

Ripley, Belair and Flair might just be the closest rivals Lynch has in terms of a Ms. WrestleMania tag, with Belair having main evented in 2022 against Sasha Banks, Ripley being on seven consecutive Mania cards and always in title matches, and Flair having eight matches under belt.

There’s certainly a compelling argument for all of them, but Lynch may just edge it.
