WWE star John Cena has commented on Cody Rhodes career, sharing his honest thoughts on his time away from WWE and character work.
Cody Rhodes has made it no secret that he idolizes John Cena, and looks to follow in his footsteps as a babyface champion.
Speaking with Denise Salcedo, John Cena praised Cody Rhodes’ dedication, highlighting his career away from WWE between 2016 and 2022 as proof that he really does want to be in this position.
Admitting that he would’ve made some different “character choices”, Cena said:
“I’ve seen a lot of talent in my days. I’ve seen a lot of performers. Everybody always comes into the business saying ‘This is what I’ve wanted to do my entire life.’
“I think what’s special about Cody is, even when he left WWE, people remember his stretch with other companies, but he wrestled everywhere. He bet on himself. When someone says ‘I’ve been wanting to do this my whole life’, his resume shows it.
“I probably would’ve made different character choices, but the fact is, there’s no right way to do the business. I think that’s important, it’s a chicken soup business, and everybody is right.
“I love that he has had wonderful mentorship from his father on, and he has taken pieces from everybody, but has written his own book. That’s really cool to see.”

Cody Rhodes will defend his WWE Championship against Randy Orton on the April 18 WrestleMania 42 Saturday show.
With Pat McAfee also being a factor in the build – and vowing to never appear on wrestling television again if Orton loses – many have predicted that Orton will win his 15th world title on Saturday night.
