Over the past few years, the best periods of WWE television from an in-ring perspective have during various tournaments, whether it be King and Queen of the Ring or the recent Lucha Libre Tournament to crown Roman Reigns’ next challenger.

With WWE heading into what is usually a quiet period for it’s product, we could see some tournaments be sprinkled in to add more intrigue into the shows.

Here are some old tournaments we could see WWE revive soon.

Cruiserweight Classic

Rey Fenix is now defending the AAA Cruiserweight Championship across all brands

On this week’s episode of WWE Raw, it was announced that AAA Cruiserweight Champion Rey Fenix was now eligible to defend the title across all brands.

In recent months, Fenix has put on some of WWE’s best matches against names like Axiom, Mini Vikingo and his brother Penta.

With more focus on the Cruiserweight Title, and six brands now available for WWE, as well as potential names from TNA and outside the company, now would be the perfect time to bring back the Cruiserweight Classic.

Mixed Match Challenge

Speaking of AAA Championships, the AAA Mixed Tag Team Championship have also appeared on WWE main roster television, when Chelsea Green and Ethan Page held the titles last year.

In the late 2010s, the Mixed Match Challenge was a fun tournament that brought together many different duos fans hadn’t even thought they needed, and it was a lot of fun to watch.

With many mixed alliances now present on WWE television, and with titles now available to be on the line, a 2026 Mixed Match Challenge would likely be the biggest and most fun version yet.

WWE World Cup

Ricochet won the 2022 WWE World Cup

In 2022, shortly after Triple H took over WWE creative, WWE held the ‘SmackDown World Cup’ alongside the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar happening at the same time.

The tournament was for a shot at Gunther’s Intercontinental Championship, and was won by Ricochet, but it gave the company a chance to showcase many of it’s international stars.

This year, WWE has continued to expand it’s international roster, with names from Raw, SmackDown, NXT, AAA, EVOLVE and TNA coming from more than enough nations to run a larger scale tournament.

Much like last time, the tournament could be to crown a challenger for Chad Gable’s Intercontinental Title, given his recent standout matches against international talent.
