There is currently some uncertainty surrounding the WWE Women’s World Championship match set for Money in the Bank, with the #1 contender still to be determined.
Stephanie Vaquer won the Women’s World Championship at a non-televised house show in her home country of Chile, defeating Liv Morgan on September 12 in a match where Becky Lynch was the special guest referee.
Vaquer recently announced a match between Morgan and Lynch for the October 5 Raw episode, with the winner to challenge for the Women’s World Title at Money in the Bank on October 10.
Ahead of Monday, there has been a lot of speculation about which star will go on to compete for Raw’s top women’s title in the Smoothie King Center next Saturday.
With Morgan and Lynch both being viable contenders, fans have been asking, who will be the next challenger for the WWE Women’s World Championship?
Will Liv Morgan spell trouble for Stephanie Vaquer?
Liv Morgan becoming the #1 contender would make sense from a storyline perspective, with she and Vaquer already having a lot of history with one another inside the ring.
After winning the Royal Rumble match, Morgan defeated Vaquer at WrestleMania 42 in April to win the Women’s World Title.
Morgan defeated Vaquer again to retain the gold on the September 7 Raw episode, with this being her last successful televised title defense ahead of dropping the gold to Vaquer in Chile.
Not only would Morgan challenging for the gold again allow them to write the next chapter of their feud on TV, a win would allow Morgan to begin to build to her next major feud.
Morgan and Roxanne Perez remain allies in the Judgment Day, however there have been some teases of dissension, mostly surrounding occasions when Perez attempts to stretch her wings in the singles division.
Because of this, it has been heavily speculated that Morgan vs Perez will take place in the future, perhaps even at WrestleMania 43.
If this is the direction WWE takes the Women’s World Title in for the Show of Shows, either Morgan or Perez will have to win the title ahead of WWE’s visit to Saudi Arabia in April 2027.
Morgan winning back the gold would allow Perez to play the underdog challenger role, either winning the Royal Rumble or Elimination Chamber match as she chases her former teammate.
Time for The Man to come back around?
Despite contributing to the Women’s World Title storyline since her return in April, Becky Lynch has yet to challenge for the gold since her comeback.
In fact, Lynch hasn’t had a Women’s World Championship match since her Steel Cage rematch against Liv Morgan on the May 27, 2024 Raw show, following Morgan defeating her for the gold at King & Queen of the Ring 2024.
Lynch defeating Morgan on Monday’s Raw would allow her to right that wrong, ahead of getting the opportunity to reach the top of the Raw women’s division mountain again.
Having been away from that scene for over two years, it’d be interesting to see Becky Lynch share the ring with Vaquer for the first time at Money in the Bank.
Liv Morgan vs Roxanne Perez is only the rumored direction for the world title match at WrestleMania 43, and a lot can change between now and then, including with creative plans for that event.
Realistically, either of these names would make for great challengers… Which is why if I had to predict the #1 contender match result, I’d call it ending in a no-contest so that both stars could challenge for the gold in a three-way bout.
Anything can happen in WWE, right?
