On the second anniversary of a WWE appearance by The Rock that seemingly featured a cryptic message, fans still haven’t seen a payoff.

All the way back on October 5, 2024, The Rock appeared at the end of WWE Bad Blood and made the first seemingly significant gesture that would be followed up at Elimination Chamber the following year.

When it comes to where the gesture is going, it seemed pretty obvious, although fans are still to see the outcome over a year later:

Three

The main event of WWE Bad Blood saw Cody Rhodes & Roman Reigns defeat The Bloodline (Solo Sikoa & Jacob Fatu).

Celebrations with The Usos were cut short with the return of The Rock, staring the victors down, counting to three with his fingers, then seeming to do a cutthroat gesture.

The October 5 WWE PLE wouldn’t see The Final Boss speak, although his actions seemed pretty intentional.

Two

Intent would be clearer at WWE Elimination Chamber in March 2025, with The Rock repeating a cutthroat gesture before signalling with two fingers, leading to John Cena turning heel and attacking Cody Rhodes.

While The Rock failed to buy the soul of Rhodes, it would be Cena who would be in the pocket of the Final Boss, going on to claim the Undisputed WWE Championship at WrestleMania 41 on April 20 last year.

One?

WrestleMania 41 concluded without an appearance by The Rock, with Travis Scott interfering to secure the win for Cena, before the relationship between the rapper and WWE fell apart.

Two years after “three” and over 83 weeks since his last appearance, The Rock is yet to return and continue what was seen as a countdown.

In the meantime, Cody Rhodes would recapture the Undisputed WWE Championship from Cena at SummerSlam, ahead of the record-breaking star’s retirement in December of last year. Rhodes would become Undisputed WWE Champion for a third time in March of this year, losing the title to Sami Zayn at Night of Champions.

Will The Rock finish his story?

In other circumstances, it would likely be easy to think that The Rock was just gesturing with his hand, with no thought paid into what his fingers were doing.

The gesture, in both cases, seemed quite intentional, however, and it’s difficult to imagine a star as seasoned as The Rock not delivering a beat without purpose.

As for what that purpose may have been, the countdown from 3 suggests that there would have been a 1, with something huge needed in order for a satisfying resolution. In the cases of 3 and 2, Cody Rhodes was featured in both cases, potentially leading up to The Final Boss vs. The American Nightmare.

With WrestleMania 43 approaching, it has been reported that The Rock will not be available ahead of the Saudi Arabia show next April. While that may have been the status as of September this year, plans can change, particularly when it comes to a show of such magnitude.

If WWE pulls out all the stops and brings The Rock to Riyadh, perhaps fans will finally get an answer to the seemingly cryptic message.
