10 most insane moments of Jeff Hardy’s career

7. Jeff misses his legdrop – WrestleMania 25

How Jeff Hardy has been able to do things like this for so long with minimal injury will always be a mystery. The only failed maneuver on this list, Jeff Hardy’s failed legdrop at WrestleMania 25 was hard to watch and was the nail in the coffin for Hardy in this match.

The second meeting of Matt and Jeff Hardy to make this list, the brothers’ 2009 rivalry was uncomfortable for many fans who did not want to watch a story about someone killing their brother’s dog. Their WrestleMania 25 match however, was a pretty creative spotfest that could have been much better if their time hadn’t been cut. Jeff Hardy stacked two tables on top of each other and laid Matt on the bottom table before performing a splash through his table creation.

As Jeff was looking to put his brother away, he attempted his patented leapfrog legdrop using a 12-foot ladder, but Matt rolled out of the way, leaving Jeff to crash and burn. Jeff crashed to the mat in a seated position that his spine must not have enjoyed and Matt hit a Twist of Fate in a chair to get the pin.

It was the biggest show of the year and an important spot, but I would not recommend this move for any young wrestlers who want a long career.

6. Swanton gets Punk’d – SummerSlam 2009

The Summer of 2009 can be highlighted by one rivalry from SmackDown, Jeff Hardy vs. CM Punk. Hardy’s most successful main event feud and the first time CM Punk really got his chance to shine in the WWE main event scene.

The story of the carefree Hardy and his known history with substance abuse taking on the smug, arrogant, straightedge CM Punk was enough to catch the imagination of the WWE fans, and they would end up main eventing SummerSlam 2009 in a TLC match for the World Heavyweight Championship. Hardy’s contract was running out and he was set to put over Punk on his way out, but that didn’t stop him from performing one last insane move before making his exit.

During their TLC match Hardy beat Punk senseless with chairs before laying him out on the announce table. Hardy then set up a monstrous ladder and leapt onto Punk with a Swanton Bomb. It was the biggest move of the excellent match and ended up doing more damage to Hardy than it did to Punk. Punk climbed the ladder and knocked the dazed Hardy to the mat below and retrieved the World Heavyweight Championship, winning the match and the title for the third time.

Hardy would lose a “Loser Leaves Town” match to Punk on SmackDown that week and would remain in WWE exile until his return at WrestleMania 33 almost eight years later.

5. Something to take the Edge off – WrestleMania 23

It is surprising that Jeff Hardy has only competed in one Money in the Bank ladder match in his career, but in his lone attempt at the contract he delivered one of the most memorable moments in the history of the stipulation.

Hardy had promised that he would steal the show at WrestleMania 23 and he created a WrestleMania moment for himself by taking out Edge with an insane legdrop. Randy Orton had sent Edge to the outside after he tipped over the ladder Edge was climbing and Matt Hardy picked up his old rival and placed him on a ladder. The ladder was bridged between the ring and the guardrail and in the ring Jeff Hardy started to climb.

Matt Hardy urged his brother to take Edge out of the match and after some pondering Jeff Hardy turned, posed, and dove onto the ‘Rated R Superstar.’ He performed a legdrop that was really just Hardy sitting on Edge from the top of a ladder in the ring.

The move took both Edge and Hardy out of the match for good, paving the way for Mr. Kennedy to win the match and go on to win the WWE Championship… oh yeah… forget about the second part.
