Stock Up – Naomi
In a vacuum, Naomi is in exactly the same slot that she was in last year, but the circumstances around the role is what makes her a hotter commodity this year.
Last year, Naomi was one of five women’s tag teams in a tag team turmoil match to earn a shot at the belts on Night Two. This year, she’s one of four teams in a four-way tag team match for the titles.
The difference is that Naomi and Lana were a thrown together tag team used just to add a team, while Naomi and Sasha Banks this year are the favorites to take the title home, and a team with logic behind their existence, even if it was decided last minute.
Stock Down – Asuka
This one is not entirely WWE’s fault. Asuka was the absolute MVP of not only Raw, not only the Women’s Division, but arguably the entire WWE during the pandemic era, which took her all the way to WrestleMania.
Last year, Asuka took the Raw Women’s Championship into the event, where she dropped the title to Rhea Ripley. This year, Asuka is not going to be a part of the show at all.
Asuka’s injury is shrouded in mystery, because I don’t think anyone knows when we’ll see her again. You could use other stars who featured on last year’s show in this spot too, but Asuka’s case is the most jarring.
